Vijay Dashmi / Dushera

The day of Dushera marks the triumph of Lord Ram over the demon king, Ravan. It marks the victory of good over evil. On this day, as a community celebration, huge effigies of Ravan and his brother Kumbhkaran are burnt on an open ground or in a park. Huge crowds cheer wildly as the effigies burn. The celebration of Dushera reminds us that we should burn the wrongs of our minds with the devotion to God.

Dushera is celebrated in JKP Bhakti Dham, which marks the beginning of the annual Sadhana program. In the early morning after the arti, Shree Maharajji chants the name of Bhagwan Ram. Bhajans are sung and Shree Maharajji speaks about the greatness of Bhagwan Ram’s descension, giving quotations from the Ramayan by Goswami Tulsi Das and also from other Ramayans.
