Maha Shivratri

The festival of Shivratri, also called Maha Shivratri, falls on the 13th day of the month of Phalgun (February-March). The word Shivratri means the night of Shiv. From early morning devotees of Lord Shiv start flocking to the temples. A daylong fast, a night of devotion, and singing of sacred songs mark this festival. The Shiv lingam is worshipped with offerings of milk, curd, honey, rose water, etc., while the glories of Lord Shiv are chanted. Shivratri at our ashram is celebrated by the devotees who sing bhajans and chant in praise of Bhagwan Shiv. A special prasad dinner is prepared.
